Glenn Basham plays the first violin in the quartet named for the famous violin maker, Carlos Bergonzi. The Bergonzi String Quartet is the quartet-in-residence at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, Michigan's Pine Mountain Music Festival and at Connecticut 's Mountain Music Festival. The Quartet is known for its unusual repertoire, which includes Latin America music, American Jazz, and an entertaining quartet version of Saint- Saens Carnival of the Animals and Peter and the Wolf. Reflecting South Florida's diverse cultural community, the Bergonzi often explores the quartet repertoire of Vill-Lobos, Ginastera, Surinach, Piazzolla, and others. They tour the United States annually and appear regularly at the Festival Miami and Mainly Mozart Series in Coral Gables. Hailed by critics as "electrifying" and "masterful", the ensemble has become one of Florida's and America's most important cultural assets.
