Glenn Basham

Biography

Glenn Basham, a native of Washington D.C., has a B.M. degree from the North Carolina School of the Arts and an M.M. degree from Indiana University. Presently he is a member of the artist faculty at the University of Miami and has been the concertmaster of the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra since 1994

Previously he served as Concertmaster of the Ft. Wayne Philharmonic and at numerous music festivals nationwide, including the Grand Teton Music Festival in Wyoming, the Colorado Music Festival, the Hot Springs Music Festival, and the Pine Mountain Music Festival. He played with the Detroit Symphony under Antal Dorati and was a member of the Chester String Quartet. He has appeared as soloist with the Ft. Wayne Philharmonic, the Lansing Symphony, the Plymouth Symphony, the Oak Park Symphony, the North Carolina School of the Arts Festival Orchestra, the Blue Lake Festival Orchestra, the Manchester Symphony, the Marion Philharmonic, the Palm Beach Symphony, the Miami City Ballet, the Pine Mountain Music Festival Symphony orchestra and the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra.

As a jazz musician, Basham has performed with Ira Sullivan, Simon Salz, and John Blake, and is featured on the Miami Saxophone Quartet's recordings,“Four More Giant Steps” and on Skitch Henderson's "Swinging with Strings" on the Arbors jazz label.  He has produced two jazz CDs, "Blue Moon" and "Blue Bossa," from a live concert given back in 2005 with Guitarist Simon Salz.

As first violinist of the Bergonzi String Quartet, Basham released a compact disc on the Fleur De Son Classics label featuring the music of Ginastera, Debussy, and Wolff, and with his colleagues in the Bergonzi String Quartet, appears on CDs featuring the music of Mendelssohn, Charles Cadman, and Dennis Kam. His second compact disc with pianist Jodie DeSalvo, "Aria," was released in 2006.  

He has been on the editorial committee of American String Teacher and served as a panelist to the 2001 International Association of Jazz Educators convention in New York City.  He is actively involved with youth orchestras in Florida, giving workshops, master lessons and performances.
